They are full of an irreverent, infectous energy that seems like it would be incredible live. Food Wins.

Top Chef just won the Emmy for Outstanding Reality Competition Program. They beat global travelers competing against time, geography, and one another (The Amazing Race), "celebrities" turned ballroom dancers sweating their way back to "fame" (Dancing with the Stars), small town kids trying to make it big/one of the biggest television phenomenons ever (American Idol), and the show that made "make it work" a tag line in the Midwest (Project Runway) proving that FOOD WINS. Food wins every time.

Closing Weekend of NeoIntegrity: Comics Edition at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) featuring the work of over 200 illustrators and cartoonists curated by Keith Mayerson. Today - Sunday from noon to five.  594 Broadway between Prince and Houston.

Everyone loves the 80's. That's why the Awesome 80's Prom at Webster Hall is so much fun, and now that Dustin Diamond (aka Screech from Saved by the Bell) has joined the cast, it is sort of  a can't miss. Dance on a Roof Top.

Just down the street from us, the Hotel on Rivington is hosting the Autobrennt Rooftop party. Dance the day and night away to a variety of DJ sets, ongoing from 3pm - Midnight. Located at 107 Rivington Street between Essex & Ludlow Streets.

The sun has finally showed face again after days of hiding out, so maybe this is a delayed reaction to the chilly grey days that blanketed our week until now, but the Tuna Melt has been on our mind. It's our homemade tuna salad, served with tomatoes and melted swiss, open face on white bread -- the absolute pinnacle of comfort food! We discovered this awesome post, including this mouth watering photo of all of the cheesy tuna melt goodness, by Robyn of the food blog The Girl Who Ate Everything (a pretty awesome site if you as us). Thanks for stopping in!

This looks fun.

We know Brooklyn is still a scary concept for a lot of our patrons, but after having read about this home brewing tutorial in Williamsburg at the Brooklyn Kitchen, we are thinking that maybe crossing the river every now and again isn't so bad.  The class will cover all of the preliminary information that you will need to get your own little operation started. The cost is $125 but includes an $80 home brewing kit, bottles of home brew for sampling, and knowledge to last a lifetime. Sunday's favorites.

When we heard that there was a lady named Sally living for a month off of only legit street truck food, our ears perked in interest. We are not talking talking stands or carts, just literal trucks, and in a city that seems to be crawling with them, we wonder how much of a challenge this will be? Considering that she has devoted all three daily meals to the project, and the trucks are by nature mobile, we would imagine it could turn out to be a considerable one, full of scavenging walks tracking down their locales, then line time, followed by lots of messy and hasty chowing. Don't get us wrong, the city is full of delectable truck-born treats, and we will definitely be tracking this challenge, but we can't help but feel quiet relief for our customers who are offered a seat with their sandwich purchase. One of our favorite films at our favorite neighborhood theater, catch Wim Wenders classic film "Wings of Desire" at Anthology Film Archives, screenings Saturday at 9pm & Sunday at 6pm. 

Menu Spotlight.

We came across this post on Canwiches a.k.a "The Great Canadian Sandwich Blog" and we kind of can't get over their photograph of our Club Sandwich. Look at our little baby shine! The deal with our Club is that it comes with a heap of tasty vegginess on one side of the seven grain triple decker, while the other gets the big show, with a heavy hand of bacon and either ham & cheddar, roast beef & provolone, turkey & swiss, or avocado & provolone. By the time you finish with this guy, your belly will be smiling for hours. There is no room for regrets when there are sprouts AND bacon involved!

A tune for Tuesday.

The North Carolina phenomenon Lost in the Trees play next Monday at The Mercury Lounge and we couldn't resist sharing one of their songs with you as our Tune for Tuesday. Their sound is somehow melancholy and upbeat all at once, with full string arrangements and sweet lyrics that remind us a little bit of the Bowerbirds and Devotchka. We've heard that they are beyond amazing live and hope we can stop by! It's an early show (7:30) and we'll being slinging sandwiches until 10, so who knows...At least we can enjoy this performance in the mean time.

Batali cooking veg!

You know we like a world that is veggie friendly, that's why we offer meatless substitutions on almost all of our sandwiches and salads. We are excited by the Meatless Monday movement, a nationwide campaign where restaurants are pledging to serve at least two vegetarian main dish options every Monday, and, recently, even more excited by the announcement that Mario Batali is currently writing a vegetarian cook book which a recent interview suggests, may emphasize the role of farmers in home cooking. We can't wait! Get out of those Crocs and in to our kitchen, Batali!

A tune for Tuesday.

Okay, we really love this band the Acrylics and are so psyched that they will be playing at the Cake Shop TONIGHT!! This Brooklyn duo are not to be missed, Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear produced their debut album and it is ridiculously addictive. The show starts at 9, so get over there and, as always, stop by and tell us about it!
