LES Weekend Guide.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, by far one of our favorite holidays. We are super psyched to be involved in the annual Thanksgiving fundraiser, Cranksgiving, this Saturday. Read more about it below!

Happy weekend!

Eat well,

Tiny's

FRIDAY & SATURDAY
slash and dash.

Known for being one of the only films that Gene Siskel walked out on, MANIAC, the gratuitously glory slasher picture from the 80's (with the added credit of being banned in some countries) will be playing the midnight show at Sunshine Cinema this Friday & Saturday. Bonus: the director, Bill Lustig, will be in attendance for an audience q&a. 143 E. Houston Street.

SATURDAY
cranksgiving!

Cranksgiving 12 is going down this Saturday and we are thrilled to be among their official sponsors. What is Cranksgiving you ask? For twelve years running, the New York Bike Messenger Foundation has been convening with serious cyclists the weekend before thanksgiving to race & gather food for New York City's homeless population. All you need to participate is a bike, a lock, a bag, some cash and some courage. Registration begins at 2pm, the race kicks off at 3pm at Thompkins Square Park.

ANS if you donate $25 to the Foundation, we will give you $6 off any of our sandwiches!

SATURDAY
magnificent beast.

Our friends at Anthology Film Archives are hosting a series of Cocteau films until the 21st, including one of our favorites by far, Beauty & the Beast. As Pauline Kael said: “[P]erhaps the most sensuously elegant of all filmed fairy tales. As a child escapes from everyday family life to the magic of a storybook, so, in the film, Beauty’s farm, with its Vermeer simplicity, fades in intensity as we are caught up in the Gustave Dore extravagance of the Beast’s enchanted landscape.…magnificent beast.” Stop by and tell us what you thought after!
Showing Saturday at 5:15. 32 Second Avenue.

SUNDAY
round two.

And Sunday don't miss another Cocteau gem at Anthology Film Archives, the screening of 1950's Orpheus at 5pm.

SUNDAY
corn mo.

With an exhausting and eclectic musical resume (including a stint with the Polyphonic Spree), Corn Mo has found its home in its own special brand of exuberant piano rock that is as infectious as it is quirky and upbeat. Catch him at the early show at Mercury Lounge this Sunday. Doors at 6:30, show at 8:30. 217 E. Houston.

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

A tune for Tuesday.

Comprised of Ritzy Bryan, Rhydian Dafydd and Matt Thomas, the English trio The Joy Formidable create the kind of energetic sound that we crave at the end of the night as we rally to clean up before heading home. If you can rally on this sleepy grey day, stop by and see them play at The Bowery Ballroom tonight. The show starts at 8. Pop in and pre-game with us over one of our toasty, warm sammy's.

Eat well,

Tiny's

LES Weekend Guide.

This weekend calls for more of  this ridiculously beautiful late Autumn weather. With temperatures hovering in the 60's & sun filled, it's the perfect weather for a sandwich & a show or a stroll.

Friday, Saturday & Sunday
now smell this.

Fans and other mechanisms create an olfactory playground at the New Museum in Heague Yang's current installation Voice and Wind. It must be smelled to be believed. 235 Bowery Street. All weekend long.

Friday, Saturday & Sunday
El Camino dreams.

photo via Salon 94 Gallery
Salon 94 Bowery, right next to the New Museum of Contemporary Art, is currently featuring a show by artist Liz Cohen. An (actual) German Tramant & a Chevy El Camino marry in the work Trabamintino. As far as we are concerned, basically anything involving an El Camino inside of a gallery will get us on board.

Saturday
dance the night away.

image via Element
Dance your face off at the Premium dance party at the Vault at Element. The Freedom's Party DJ's will be spinning a range of dance worthy music all night long. E. Houston St. at Essex. 11pm.

Saturday
down home music.

image via Horse Feathers
Catch the Portland Oregon based blue grassy quartet Horse Feathers at the Bowery Ballroom this Saturday and see what all of the fuss is about. Their string ballads and gorgeous melodies are the perfect accompaniment to the Fall. Doors at 8, show at 9. 6 Delancey Street.

Sunday
laugh your face off.

image via Brooklyn Vegan
Pianos is one of our favorite places for catching a show after work, but what they are less known for is their weekly comedy showcase. Stop by Sunday at 7pm to check it out as they host a rotating cast of regulars and newbies alike. No cover. 158 Ludlow between Stanton & Rivington.

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

A tune for Tuesday.

This week's music pick is dedicated to Hooray for Earth, who are currently playing a residency at Pianos, where they will perform every Wednesday through November. Grab a bite with us on the way so we can discuss the puppets in this video for Surrounded by Your Friends.

Eat well,

  hide out with Godard.
Keep Your Right Up, the 1987 gem from Jean Luc Godard who appears in the film as a Buster Keaton-like character. Co-starring the lovely Jane Birkin. Playing at one of our favorite theaters, Anthology Film Archives. Pair it with a toasty hot Tiny's sandwich and you have the perfect prescription for an overcast Friday night.
32 Second Avenue. Show starts at 7pm.

Friday, Saturday & Sunday
spend the weekend at the New Museum.
Stop by our place for lunch and walk it off with a tour of two interesting installations, "Free" & "The Last Newspaper", at the New Museum this weekend. 235 Bowery.

40,000 runners covering over 26 miles and all five boroughs, the ING New York City Marathon is an institution not to be missed. Cheer on your fellow New Yorker's and camp out with a cozy Tiny's picnic while you do. If you are among the brave & the strong running this Sunday, we recommend stopping by for a carb loading session Saturday.

Happy Halloween!

We've loved seeing your costumes on the street this weekend & we thought you would like these decked out pups at the annual Dog Halloween Parade at Tompkins, our neighborhood park.

Come by and show us some pics of your costumes in case we missed you this weekend!

LES Weekend Guide.

Happy Halloween!! This is one of our favorite holidays and we can't wait to see everyone's costumes this weekend! Come in and show us what you got or send us pictures of your Sunday's best. Our weekend guide is dedicated to spooky spaces as there seem to be an abundance of local spins this year. Come by before to line your stomach or after to calm your spirit (in costume please!).

Eat well,

Tiny's

Friday, Saturday & Sunday
Gore free but still ever so creepy haunted house.
The Steampunk Haunted House at the Abrons Art Center/Henry Street Settlement will be active all weekend in their 100 year old space. Encounter Victorian macabre meets terrifying robots at this fresh take on the classic haunted house experience. You're sure to be spooked, so we would recommend a visit our way after the terror fest to calm your nerves and fill your bellies. Friday & Saturday 8-11pm; Sunday 6-9:30. Tickets $25, $10 students. 466 Grand Street at Pitt St.

Friday
the living installation at ABC No Rio.
Artist Michael Alan will perform an edition of his ongoing exhibition "The Living Installation" (occuring 6 times a year) at ABC No Rio with the them BLACK AND WHITE/The Misfits. A tribute to both the punk band and the punk roots of the space itself. The happening will take place over the course of five hours and, most importantly, will be taking place a short block from the sandwich shop. 156 Rivington St. b/t Clinton & Suffolk.

Saturday
a candlelight tour in an 19th century home.
Walking through a darkened home with a group of strangers sounds scary enough to us, but make that home the Merchant's House Museum a.k.a "Manhattan's most haunted house", a preserved familial home from the 1800's, with a tour led by staff members who have personally encountered the inexplicable and the paranormal, all by candlelight, and you have the ingredients for a downright spooky experience. Tours run every half hour from 6-10pm on Friday & Saturday. $25, $13 for members. 29 E. 4th St. b/t Bowery & Lafayette.

Sunday
the old standby.
What would Halloween in New York be without the annual Village Halloween Parade? Between the crowds, the costumes, and the revelry it is an unforgettable marathon of a Halloween celebration. This year's theme of memento mori is sure to cast a morbid spin on the typically outlandish affair. Pack a Tiny's picnic and report back with photos for us! 6:30-10:30pm, 6th Ave. from Spring St. to W.16th St.

This week's tune for Tuesday is dedicated to our man Tom Petty as he celebrates his 60th birthday this week (and can we talk about the scene at the Live Aid concert in 1985?!). Our neighbors at the Bowery Ballroom will be holding their annual Petty Fest celebration this Thursday with Special Guests: Adam Green, Norah Jones, Will Forte & Jason Sudeikis of Saturday Night Live, Nicole Atkins, Nikolai Fraiture of the Strokes, Catherine Pierce, Jesse Malin, Tyson Ritter  of the All American Rejects, Reeve & Zane Carney, Jody Porter of Fountains Of Wayne, Sammy James of the Mooney Suzuki, Steve Schiltz  of Hurricane Bells & Longwave, Antony Ellis of Five O'Clock Heroes, Mikki James, Hymns and many more. Join in on the epic celebration and be sure to fill us in if you make it over, otherwise we may just have to share a jam to Free Fallin' in the shop over some sandwiches.

Menu Spotlight.

If a salad and a sandwich were to shack up, the Veggiest of Them All would most likely be their offspring. Think of it as a portable salad with a whole grain bread wrapper. This sandwich delivers a fresh explosion of crunchy, juicy, bright flavors ranging from the sammy classics (spinach, sprouts, tomato & onion) to the rich & creamy (avocado & Goddess dressing) topped off with cucumber, carrots, and roasted red peppers. Add cheese or turkey/tofu turkey for just a little bit extra and your belly will thank you.

Sunday
Dance the weekend away.
At 2pm on Sunday you can dance the remainder of the weekend away at The Hotel on Rivington (our swanky neighbors just down the block) at the Verboten Presents Soul Clap + Nicolas Jaar dance party. The play list promises house, disco and soul. Sounds like a good time to us!
